Alyce and I are out meeting new residents in our community again and what fun we have had. It is especially fun during the holidays as we get to see decorated homes and eager children and parents.
Theresa Hoke
Our first visit was on 12/11/13, at the home of Heath & Theresa Hoke. They are newly weds as of May, 2013. They moved to Anamoose from Towner and purchased the former city hospital or Linda Babb’s home. Before coming to ND they lived in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Heath works as a contractor with Fed-X out of Minot. Theresa works for Wal-Mart in Minot. They chose Anamoose for their home due to the larger home, more room for their dogs and a nice large yard. They are presently tearing out the walls and insulation on the second level and they will replace them with new insulation and sheet rock, thus making it a more energy-efficient home with an updated, new look. Some of the hobbies Theresa has is reading, playing with the dogs and they both enjoy sports. Heath likes to fly fish and ties his own flies. He also has done landscaping in the past and has plans for their yard this spring.
Dalton, Sebastian, Linsey, Daisy
Our next visit of the day was with Marvin & Daisy Russom and children; Lindsey (14), Dalton (12), and Sebastian (10). We missed seeing Marvin as he was still at work with Anytime Hydro in Minot. They originally came from Missouri and lived in Minot for a while but the costs were so high and they like small town living so chose Anamoose. The kids also really like the Drake/Anamoose Public School system. The Russom family likes to do things together such as games & movies. Daisy is into baking, cooking, canning and is planning next years garden!
Jason, Sheelah, Brayden & Konner
Our third residence was the home of Jason Bucy and his girlfriend Sheelah Monen along with her children; Konner (6), Brayden (5), and Isaac (1 1/2). She is Linda Babb’s daughter that used to live in Anamoose and they have moved to Anamoose from Harvey. She is originally from Oregon. The children are presently going to school in Harvey as Sheelah works and has day-care at St Aloisius Medical Center as a CNA. They moved to Anamoose because of housing. Jason is taking college classes on-line for computer training and has been a finish carpenter and handy man in the past.
Ted & Tammy Mertz
Our fourth residence was a new addition and remodeled home of Ted & Tammy Mertz and daughter Kaitlyn who is now a college student at SD State University, studying law. This is the former home of Rudy Wohl and has had a wonderful transformation. They moved into town from the Goodrich area. They own TM Construction, Mertz Americana Hotel and also farm and ranch. Tammy works in Martin for FU Oil of Velva as their bookkeeper They name fishing and hunting as their hobbies.
James & Ashley
Our 5th residence was that of James Shadowens and Ashley Schneider. They both work at the Harvey Flour Mill and had lived in Harvey and Hamberg in the past. They moved here due to available housing, small town living and to be close to work. James is an artist; doing drawings & paintings that he showed us. He has sold several over the internet. He also does tatoos. Ashley is into horses and has a horse at her folk’s in Hamberg.
